The Sinister Inn Tour

Terms & Privacy

Last updated: 6 September 2026

Short version: This is a horror entertainment experience, not a factual history. We use your phone's location to unlock stops and to show how many people are nearby — never your name or exact position to other people. We don't sell your data. You walk real public streets at your own risk. Purchases are handled by Stripe, and shirts are printed and shipped by Printful.

1. Terms of Use

1.1 What this is

The Sinister Inn Tour ("the Tour," "we," "us") is a self-guided, GPS-based walking entertainment experience covering publicly accessible locations in and around Los Angeles, California, together with an optional paid virtual reality experience and optional merchandise.

1.2 Entertainment, not fact

All content is presented for entertainment purposes. The narration blends documented history with local legend, rumour, folklore, speculation, and dramatisation. It is not journalism, not a historical record, and is not represented as verified fact. Nothing here should be relied upon as accurate information about any person, business, property, or event.

1.3 No affiliation

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any business, venue, landmark, museum, hotel, cemetery, or property named or depicted in the Tour. All trademarks and property names belong to their respective owners and are referenced descriptively only. Featured businesses have not reviewed or approved this content.

1.4 Your conduct

By using the Tour, you agree that you will:

We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that violates these terms.

1.5 Assumption of risk

You participate voluntarily and entirely at your own risk. The Tour takes place outdoors in a real city, on real streets, potentially at night, and may involve walking significant distances. You are solely responsible for your own safety, health, decisions, transportation, and belongings, and for supervising anyone in your care.

1.6 Age and content

Tour content is intended for mature audiences and contains descriptions of death, violence, crime, and disturbing subject matter, plus intense horror content, jump scares, and flashing imagery in the VR experience. The Tour is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

1.7 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Tour and its operators are not liable for any injury, death, illness, loss, theft, property damage, arrest, citation, or other harm arising from your participation, your travel to or from any location, your conduct, the conduct of third parties, or your use of the VR experience. The Tour is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that GPS, audio, the map, or any feature will function without interruption or error.

1.8 Intellectual property

All Tour content — narration, audio recordings, writing, artwork, designs, and software — is owned by us and may not be copied, recorded, redistributed, performed publicly, or used commercially without written permission.

1.9 Changes and governing law

We may modify the Tour or these terms at any time; continued use constitutes acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.

2.2 Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share only what is necessary with these service providers:

ProviderWhat they receive
Google FirebaseAccount details, progress, anonymous presence data, analytics
Google AnalyticsAnonymous usage events
StripePayment and billing information, shipping address
PrintfulName, shipping address, email and phone, for merchandise orders only
NetlifyWebsite hosting and standard server logs
FormspreeEmail addresses submitted to the announcements list, and nothing else
OpenStreetMap / NominatimMap tiles, and any address you submit for lookup — see 3.3

We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the rights or safety of any person.

2.3 Announcement emails

If you choose to submit your email address at the end of the tour, it is stored with our form provider, Formspree, and used only to tell you when something new is released. We will not sell or rent it, and it is not connected to your tour account or progress. Every message we send will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time using the contact details in section 6.

2.4 Cookies and local storage

The Tour stores data on your device (local storage) to remember your progress, your anonymous identifier, and settings. Our providers may set their own cookies. You can clear this at any time through your browser, though doing so will erase your Tour progress if you are not signed in.

2.5 Retention and security

Live presence data is short-lived and drops off within minutes of you leaving. Visit records described in section 3.3 are retained to power visit counts. Account data and progress are kept until you ask us to delete them. Order records are retained as required for tax and business purposes. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

2.6 Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA — you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to request deletion or correction, to limit the use of sensitive personal information such as precise location, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. To make a request, contact us at the address in section 6.

3. Location Data

3.1 How your location is used

The Tour requires your device's location to work. It is used to unlock stops when you physically arrive, to show your position on the map, and to count how many other participants are near you. You can refuse or revoke location permission at any time in your browser settings; the map will still work, but stops will not unlock.

3.2 What other people can see

Other participants can see aggregate counts of how many people are near a location. While you are playing narration, they can also see that an anonymous person is listening at a named stop, and can send a short sound or recorded line that plays over your narration. They never see your name, your email, your account, your exact coordinates, or your movement history, and they cannot tell one participant from another or follow anyone between stops.

Alongside the stop name, other participants see a broad indication of how far through the tour you are — for example early in their tour or on their last haunt. This is deliberately coarse rather than an exact count, so that it describes a stage rather than a person.

If someone reaches you, they are told anonymously whether the sound played and whether you stopped the recording shortly afterwards. They are never told who you are, where you live, what account you hold, or anything that could identify you or let them find you again — only that the person they reached reacted.

You can stop appearing to others, stop receiving anything from them, and stop any reaction being reported back, using the single toggle in the listeners panel. Sounds are chosen from a fixed set we provide — participants cannot record, upload, or send anything of their own, so nothing another person sends can contain their words, their voice, or any personal information.

3.3 Visit records

When you arrive at a stop, we store a record that your anonymous device identifier was there, with a timestamp. This powers the "people who have been here in the last seven days" count, and, if you are present when a Convergence occurs, determines that the resulting location appears for you.

These records are tied to a randomly generated device identifier, not to your name or account, and are never shown to other participants in a form that identifies anyone. Other people only ever see totals. You can clear your device identifier at any time by clearing your browser's site data, which disconnects you from all previous records.

3.4 Addresses you provide

If you choose to enter a home or mailing address, it is stored with your account and is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to convert it into map coordinates. This is used solely to place the Tour's final personalised location. It is never shown to other participants. Providing an address is optional; the Tour works without it.

4. Purchases & Refunds

4.1 VR portal access

Portal access is a one-time purchase granting entry to the VR experience for twenty-four hours from the moment access is granted. It requires a compatible VR headset browser. Because access is delivered immediately and consumed digitally, it is non-refundable once opened, except where required by law. If a technical fault prevented you from entering at all, contact us.

4.2 The completion shirt

The shirt is offered to participants who complete the Tour and may be purchased only during a twenty-four hour window that begins when you finish. This window is strictly enforced and the offer cannot be reopened. Items are printed to order by a third-party fulfilment partner.

Because each item is made to order, we cannot accept returns for change of mind or incorrect size selection. If your item arrives damaged, defective, or materially different from what was ordered, contact us within 30 days of delivery with photographs and we will arrange a replacement or refund. Delivery estimates are not guaranteed.

4.3 Payment

All payments are processed by Stripe under their own terms. Prices are in US dollars. You are responsible for any customs duties or import charges on international orders.

5. VR Experience Safety

The VR experience requires a clear physical space of at least six feet by six feet and involves walking, not just sitting or standing. Before entering, clear your space of furniture, pets, cables, and other people.

You assume all risk associated with use of virtual reality equipment.
